Gulbadin Naib Shines as Dubai Capitals Pull Off Record ILT20 Playoff Chase to Reach Final!


Dubai Capitals (DC) defeated Desert Vipers (DV) by five wickets in Qualifier 1 of ILT20 2025, pulling off the highest successful chase in the tournament's playoff history.

Desert Vipers Set a Competitive 189-7

After winning the toss, Dubai Capitals opted to bowl first. Desert Vipers' openers, Alex Hales and Rahmatullah Gurbaz, started the innings, but DC got an early breakthrough as Farhan Khan dismissed Gurbaz for just 1 run in the opening over.

Hales, in explosive form, powered the innings with a stunning 67 off 32 balls, smashing five fours and six sixes. Max Holden (36 off 26) and Daniel Lawrence (35 off 25) provided valuable contributions. However, DC's bowlers struck at regular intervals, preventing Vipers from reaching 200.

Qais Ahmed (2/29 in 4 overs) and Gulbadin Naib (2/30 in 3 overs) were the standout bowlers for Dubai Capitals, while Obed McCoy and Dushmantha Chameera chipped in with crucial wickets.

Chasing 190, Dubai Capitals got off to a solid start, thanks to Adam Rossington’s attacking intent. He smashed boundaries early but was dismissed for 41 off 28 balls. Shai Hope (17 off 17) fell in the 7th over, giving Desert Vipers hope.

Sam Billings then took charge, hammering 38 off just 16 balls with five fours and two sixes, before falling to Hasaranga in the 12th over. Powell (24 off 18) and Gulbadin Naib (46 off 30) kept the chase alive, but the game went down to the final over.


With 12 needed off the last six balls, Ferguson started with a wide. Naib's dropped catch and some lucky boundaries brought the scores level with two balls remaining. However, Naib got out on the penultimate delivery, bringing Sikandar Raza on strike for the last ball. Raza held his nerve and smashed a four, sealing a thrilling victory for Dubai Capitals!
